So why do you wasnt to watch game videos rather than play them? Video game videos refer to displaying sections of video games through video. This will be done for varied purposes, including sales, information, walkthrus and humour.
The history of game videos has been a reletivly short one, as video games were not a fully commercial product (for home usage) until the mid-1990's, and has slowly developed since then. Today, the concept has extended to include a variety of methods and far greater accessability.
Such methods are based around one or a mix of main categories, including 'selling' the game, giving information on how to play the game, entertaining the audience, or another similar topic. This basically gives two key categories which each method will fall under, either being informative, or for entertainment.
The informative type of video will, obviously, be the ones that have the aim of giving the viewer information. This will be either to help the user with a game-related problem, or promoting the game to be sold or recognised for a different purpose. This includes TV adverts and game walkthroughs, amongst others. These videos will be seen on TV, but walkthroughs and non-mainstream information are shown on YouTube, or the official website of the game.
An entertaing video looks to do exactly that, but can come across in several ways. The clips will most often involve in-game footage, and may contain voiceovers for added effect. The common types of such videos will be general footage (to show-off achievements, ect.) or manichmas (made with voice-overs, TV style) being the two extremes. Such videos are mainly seen on YouTube, or other, more specific websites for that video.
Overall, though, video game videos are an intreguing and growing concept and are continuing to develop in popularity, especially the entertaining ones. This is helped by the increased avaliability of such videos, being included on YouTube, and now accessiable via other services. The popularity of such videos will continue to soar as long as there are games for them to be made from, and so will continue to inform and entertain based on this topic for a long time to come. |
