Videos on Mobile Phones are an increasingly popular

Videos on Mobile Phones are an increasingly popular way of displaying clips and shows, as phone manufactors look to take advantage of the fact that such videos are easily portable nowadays and that the technology has developed to a very high standard.

It is amazing to think about the development of the mobile phone in the past few years, which has been a metric advancement on the original 'brick' concept, to a 21st century society where touch screens, customisable menus, and the applications of a phone are deemed more important than the main purpose of calling people. A key factor contributing to this growth is that of watching videos.

As suggested, there are plenty of ways to watch ready-made video material on mobile phones now, the most obvious of which being a full internet application on almost all new phones these past couple of years. This allows many services that were previously only avaliable through computers into more portable material, and would include YouTube and BBC iPlayer among the more common examples. Also some TV services, notably Sky have started (or will soon begin) live coverage of their channels on mobiles, adding a new dimension to the way that people can watch content.

Due to this, there is of course a huge demand for phones that carry such applications, and as such becomes the norm in a society where the 'in' thing is all-important. It is a generally well-recieved concept, though, and allows the user access to content that they could only usually recieve from their own home.

There are, though, almost certainly problems with the concept, the obvious one being the cost of both the phone and the services with it, and the stigma of snobbery attached to it (it comes to something when a mobile phone costing £150 can be classed as poor). The other ringing concern is that it could take away the need for regular appliances such as TV's and Computers, with mobile phones fast becoming a source for anything digital.

Despite these fears, though, it is clear that a majority of people are sensible enough to treat phones mainly as phones alone, and not depend on it for all their daily activities. Provided that online videos are put in the same bracket (a privelage, not a neccessity), then they will be treated as such and considered a good advancement in modern technology.
